If your Aluminium Composite Panels are starting to show signs of wear and tear, there’s a quick and easy way to make them look like new again – re-coating. This guide will provide an overview of the process, from preparing the surface to applying the final coat.

Identifying The Right Base Coating Material.

To ensure the re-coating process is successful, you must identify the correct material to use. The most common type of base coating is primer, which can be applied with a roller or brush. The primer should dry to a smooth surface with no visible defects and is usually white in colour. If you’re using epoxy or two-part polyurethane as your base coating, make sure to mix it properly according to all instructions before applying.

Preparing The Aluminium Composite Panels For Application.

Before applying the coating, make sure to prepare your panels properly. Start by cleaning the panels with a soft cloth and warm soapy water, making sure to remove any dirt or dust. Abrasive cleaners should be avoided at all costs as this could cause damage to the surface of the panels. Once your panels are cleaned, you can use a scouring pad to gently sand them down until they’re smooth. This will ensure a good bond between the primer and panels, helping ensure longer lasting protection from corrosion.

Applying The New Coating Layer Properly.

Once you’ve prepared your panels and they’re dry, you can start applying the new coating layer. You should use a good quality brush or roller to apply the necessary coats of paint or lacquer, making sure that each layer is completely dry before you move onto the next one. When all of the layers are applied, leave them until they’re settled and done curing. It may take up to several days for coating layers to be absolutely stable and safe against corrosion so make sure you allow enough time for this process.

Curing & Drying The New Coating Layer.

Once all of the coating layers are applied and dry, you will need to leave them until they’ve completely cured. You can do this by leaving the paintings in a warm, dry area away from sunlight or strong weather conditions. To ensure an even curing process and better adhesion, you may want to cover the panel with some material such as a plastic film. Make sure to remove it after 24 hours so that the panels can completely dry out before use.

Inspecting The Finished Product for Defects.

Once the Aluminium Composite Panels have been properly coated, it’s time to inspect them for any defects. Look closely at all areas of the panel and be extra careful when checking around the edges of the panel as this is where many defects can occur. If any defects are spotted, then they must be repaired or completely removed to ensure the longevity of your panels. Make sure you have sufficient lighting or magnification when selecting a defect-free finish.
